Wonder Shells come two ways; regular and medicated

The Regular Wonder Shells are great for ph, mineral cations (GH), water clarification, chlorine removal and more.

*Adds necessary minerals/electrolytes (VERY IMPORTANT!). Wonder Shells may also improve Redox Balance, which the latest research shows may more important to fish health then parameters such as pH!
Wonder Shells perform this by adding a constant supply of positive calcium and other positive mineral ions that are depleted during Redox Balancing, despite GH tests which cannot discern the ion charge and may show high GH when I reality, these cations are depleted. *An excellent component/tool for re-mineralizing Reverse Osmosis Water. Wonder Shells continue to add ESSENTIAL positive mineral ions long after products such as Kent RO Right are exhausted.
Recommend use is to add a Wonder Shell in the new RO water container along with KH buffers and immediate electrolyte replenishers such as the Premium SeaChem Replenish and wait several hours to a day before adding to the aquarium or Betta Tank.
Then adding a small Wonder Shell (in full or in half) to the Betta Container is highly suggested by aquarium water chemistry experts.

MEDICATED

During my 3 decades of aquarium and pond maintenance I worked on many combinations of disease treatments and preventatives.
We needed treatments that were both effective and simple, as we could not be cost effective if we had to make too many return trips to our customers to add treatments. We developed the "Medicated Wonder Shell" during this time. One of the benefits of this product is the steady flow of medication instead of the spikes of medication during traditional medication, which is easier on the fish. Another benefit is the ph buffering aspect of this product. Malachite green (an active ingredient in this and most other Ich remedies) is more toxic at lower ph, but this product help buffer the ph to lessen the toxicity of the medication towards the fish.

The Medicated Wonder Shell treats and prevents ich and fungus as well as being effective on many fungal, some bacterial diseases and FW oodinium (velvet). They also can be used in ponds. The Medicated Wonder Shells also help with water clarity and help oxygenate your aquarium or pond. We recommend using them any time new fish are added to your aquarium and carbon filtration can even be continued during this time. We do not recommend using them longer than three consecutive weeks (although they may be used again after 2-3 weeks and a partial water change).

• Probably one of the most effective treatments for velvet available, as the copper sulfate and methylene blue not only kill the swimming stage (as in ich), but kill velvet (Piscinoodinium pillulare) in the dormant stage by destroying the chloroplasts.
• Effective for mild to moderate ich infestations
• Effective for true fungal infections
• Another positive to this product is the electrolytes in the wonder shell stabilize the methylene blue medication, making it much safer. While the Calcium buffers the malachite green (which is more toxic at lower pH).
• Not recommended as a cure or treatment for true bacterial diseases.

The "medicated wonder shells" are especially useful in cichlid, discus, tetra, and livebearer aquariums. Use with caution in planted aquariums (although we have used them effectively with live plants with little damage to the plants).
